How to Care for Your Crochet Flowers and Decorations
Crochet flowers and decorations have small details that deserve gentle handling: shaped petals, joined leaves, soft filling and, on some designs, wooden supports. A little routine care can help keep those details looking neat. Always follow the instructions for your particular item first.
Unpack slowly and support the whole piece
Lift a figure from its body rather than its hat, scarf or arms. For a wall hanging, support the dowel and lay the strands out before lifting it onto a hook. Separate any tangled cords with your fingers instead of pulling them apart. Shape flattened petals gently; avoid tugging on stitches.
Remove dust with a light touch
Use a clean, soft, dry brush or cloth. Support each flower from underneath and work gently across the surface. Stop if fibers catch on the brush. Avoid adhesive lint rollers on delicate petals and avoid scrubbing, which can disturb the yarn texture.
Spot-clean only when needed
For the decorations in our current collections, spot-cleaning is the starting approach. Test a barely damp cloth on an inconspicuous area first. Blot lightly, do not rub, and keep moisture away from wooden parts and attachments. Do not soak a whole piece unless its individual care instructions specifically allow it. If you are unsure about a stain, contact us before applying a cleaning product.
Let the item dry completely
After a small spot treatment, support the piece in its natural shape and allow it to air-dry in a ventilated place. Do not return it to a closed box while damp. Avoid tumble dryers, hot irons and direct heat. Do not assume a decorative crochet item can be washed like a sweater.
Choose a suitable display spot
Keep yarn decorations indoors, away from open flames, cooking splashes and damp areas. Use a secure hook for wall hangings, and keep cords out of reach of children and pets. Check the hook and hanging loop occasionally, particularly after moving the item.
Store seasonal pieces without crushing them
Make sure each item is clean and dry. Separate flowers and ornaments with tissue, coil loops loosely and cushion projecting details. For a wall hanging, layer the cords carefully and protect both ends of the dowel. Avoid placing heavy objects on the box.
